USING ALONE

What is Alone?

Alone is a smartphone app for iOS and Android that ensures the safety of people living alone through regular check-ins. The app is not specifically aimed at addressing loneliness: someone can live alone without feeling lonely, and vice versa. Alone focuses purely on a person's living situation (i.e., living alone) and safety.

You can use the app for yourself, but also for someone else, such as a grandparent who lives alone. Alone is also suitable for clients who live independently, people with medical vulnerabilities, single parents, or individuals who are often home alone due to work or lifestyle. Caregivers also use Alone to provide extra security without needing to check in constantly.

Alone is designed for anyone living alone who wants a simple, reliable way to enhance their sense of safety and peace of mind.

Who was Alone designed for?

Alone is designed for everyone who lives alone. The app offers safety and peace of mind for people of all ages. But people who live together can also benefit from Alone. You might usually have regular contact, but due to a busy schedule you may not speak to anyone for two or three days. You could fall at home while your partner is traveling abroad. Or a single parent could pass away during sleep while their children are too young to call for help. These are just a few examples where Alone can provide extra safety, even for people who don't live alone.

How can I register?

To use Alone, you first need to create an account at www.alone.app. Through the website, you can set up an account and subscribe to a plan. A subscription is required to use Alone: monthly (€2.99) or yearly (€29.00). There are no additional fees or contracts, and you can cancel at any time.

How does Alone function?

To use the Alone app, you first create an account at www.alone.app. After completing the registration process, you can download and start using the app. In the app, you add one or two contact persons and choose your check-in frequency: daily, every three days, weekly, or biweekly. Then you begin receiving automatic check-ins.

If you don't respond to a check-in, for example because you have fallen, a reminder will be sent after 24 hours. If there is still no response within 3 hours after that, we will contact your contact persons by email and/or text message.

How does the check-in function?

A check-in is a push notification that you receive at the interval and time you set. For example, if you choose a daily check-in at 3:00 PM, the app will send a push notification every day at that time. When you tap the notification or open the app manually, your check-in is automatically registered and we know that everything is okay.

What happens if I don't respond?

If you don't respond to the check-in message, we will send a reminder after 24 hours. If there is still no response within 3 hours after that, we will immediately contact your contact persons by email and/or text message.

What if I accidentally miss a check-in?

No problem. You will receive a reminder after 24 hours, and then you have 3 hours to respond before your contact person is notified.

Who can I register as a contact?

Anyone you trust can be your contact person: a friend, family member, neighbour, healthcare provider, colleague, trusted person, caregiver, social worker, and so on.

What message is sent to my contact?

Your contact person will receive a notification by email and/or text message indicating that you have not responded to multiple check-ins. They will be asked to contact you to check that everything is okay. Your name, address, and phone number will be included in the message.

Can I change the settings of the app?

Yes, you can always update your personal information and payment details, change your contact person, adjust your check-in frequency, and temporarily pause check-ins.

How to pause Alone check-ins temporarily

You can use the app's pause function to stop check-in messages until a selected date in the settings. After that date, check-ins will automatically resume.

How to change your check-in time

The app allows you to choose your check-in time and interval, and you can change them at any time through the app settings.

How to change your emergency contacts

You can register your contacts in the app and manage them anytime. Through the settings, you can add, delete, or modify your contacts.

How to change your home address or phone number

You can update your home address or phone number anytime through Account Settings at www.alone.app.

Can I use Alone for somebody else?

Yes, for example as a caregiver. You can create an account yourself and then install the app on the phone of the person you are caring for, with their consent.

Is Alone free to use?

No, Alone costs €2.99 per month or €29.00 per year. We deliberately chose a paid model to ensure the app's quality, reliability, safety, and ongoing development.

How to update your payment information

You can update your payment information by logging in at www.alone.app. Once logged in, you can manage your subscription, cancel it, or add new payment details.

Is Alone available globally?

Alone was developed in the Netherlands and is available worldwide. The app is currently offered in Dutch and English, with more languages planned for the future.

What devices is Alone available for?

Alone works on smartphones and tablets and is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Do I need cellular data or WiFi for Alone to work?

Yes. You'll need either Wi-Fi or cellular data. Alone needs to communicate over the internet with Alone's servers to check you in.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Because we offer a paid service, we do not use revenue models such as ads or selling your data. Your information is used solely to operate the app and ensure your safety.

How to cancel your Alone account

To cancel your Alone account, log in at www.alone.app, where you can cancel your subscription and/or delete your account.
